How To Always Keep Your Curls Moisturized

You always have to keep your curls moisturized!

Unlike straighter hair textures, the sebum from our scalp doesn’t travel to the ends of our hair. It gets stuck at our kinks and curls along our hair strands. So, you have to moisturize your hair yourself. Luckily for us, there are a variety of ways we can keep our curls moisturized.

Here are 3 ways to keep your curls moisturized:

CONDITIONERS:
Conditioners are the next step after shampooing your hair. Why? After the moisture is removed using the shampoo, it needs to be replenished. One of the ways to do so is by using a conditioner. Conditioners contain water as the first ingredient as it is the best hydrator for our curls. Also, it contains a key ingredient called Cetearyl alcohol. Cetearyl alcohol is a fatty acid that provides moisture to your hair. The fatty alcohol can penetrate the hair shaft to absorb into the hair strand. After applying the conditioner to your hair, you should notice your curls start to pop as your hair absorbs increasingly of the conditioner.

The more moisturized your curls are, the more defined your curls will be. No need to let the conditioner sit on your hair for an extended period. Your hair has absorbed what it needs from the conditioner, so it’s time to rinse.

DEEP CONDITIONERS:
After rinsing, it’s time to follow up with a deep conditioner. You may be thinking, what’s the point of conditioning than deep conditioning? Deep conditioners are an advanced version of a conditioner. They contain key minerals and vitamins that can transform the health of your curls. There is a deep conditioner to suit your hair’s needs. Is it lacking strength, you need a protein deep conditioner? Or is it extremely dry, you need a moisture-rich deep conditioner.

Apply the deep conditioner to your hair thoroughly from the tips to the roots so it evenly coats your hair strand. Then, let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes with a steam cap on. The indirect heat from the steam cap will lift the cuticle layer on your hair strand. So that more of the deep conditioner can be absorbed to work its magic,

THE LOC/LCO METHOD:
Another way is by doing the LCO/LOC (Liquid, Cream, and Oil) method. With this moisturization technique, your hair will be hydrated using Liquid. Examples of liquids you can use are our Moisturizing Leave in Mist or a water-based conditioner, a spray bottle of h20, or aloe vera juice. Then, once you hydrate it’s time to seal in the hydration. The next steps are to use oils and creams. You can use the oil first then the cream or the cream and then the oil. Either way, both don’t mix well with liquids as they sit on top of the liquids. This is what your hair needs as we want the hydration to be locked in, so your hair stays moisturized for longer. Therefore, your hairstyles last longer so you don’t have to restyle frequently.

These 3 ways help to prevent your curls from being dry. Dry hair is prone to breakage, knots, and tangles. All of which will impact your length retention. We all want longer, healthier, and thriving curls. The best way to get there is through moisture.
